Bio Planete - Pumpkinseed oil 100ml
Craftsmanship and tradition are the foundation for our Pumpkinseed Oil: The large, hull-less oil pumpkin seeds are peeled from the pumpkins by hand, and – according to old Austrian tradition – cleaned in clear water and gently roasted at 70 °C / 158 °F. The Styrian oil pumpkin produces particularly large seeds of exclusive taste. Still, it takes the seeds of 30 to 50 pumpkins to get 1 L of pumpkinseed oil. The oil’s characteristically dark color results from high contents of chlorophyll and carotene in the seeds’ coats.
Pumpkinseed oil has a distinctive individual flavor which makes it an all-rounder in application: Lettuce, raw or warm vegetables and even vanilla ice cream receive a pleasantly piquant note when this oil is added. A couple of splashes on jacket potato or on warm goat’s cheese provide an especially hearty culinary experience. The oil also excels in improving fondue sauce.
Product of organic farming
The pumpkin is the largest fruit of the plant world. Botanically speaking, the pumpkin is a berry because the seeds are located within the fruit. Those of the Steyr pumpkin are especially large, with a fine flavour.
The seeds of the Steyr pumpkin are cleansed in clear water in the traditional way, before being gently roasted at 70° C. The seed shells are rich in chlorophyll and carotene, which gives the oil its luminescent, deep reddish-green colour. Pumpkinseed oil has a pronounced flavour of its own, with a deliciously fruity, slightly tart aroma.
This oil adds a certain ’je-ne-sais-quoi’ to even the simplest of dishes.
Use pumpkinseed oil in green salads, ’crudités’ and with cooked vegetables. A few splashes on jacket potatoes or on goat’s cheese give them a subtle flavour. Use it to enhance fondue sauces or rub onto the skin of a chicken before roasting, to make it crisp and bronze-coloured.
Pumpkinseed oil is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids. It is best not to heat it as high temperatures destroy these precious properties and make the oil bitter. Pumpkinseed oil is recommended for prostate and bladder problems.
